Don't Wanna Buy A Go Pro? Use This Mount For Your Existing Digital Cam Arkon CMP227 Motorcycle Handlebar Mount

ARKON CMP227 Motorcycle and Bicycle Handle Bar Mount for Cameras with 1/4 20 Screw Thread

Okay so the GoPro camera and all these small action cams are the hot thing. If you want to take videos of you on your motorcycle but don't want to shell out $400 for a GoPro why not use your existing digital camera or even cellphone?

Don't Wana Buy A GoPro? Use This With Your Existing Digital Cam

Well here is a cheap alternative to running out dropping $400 on a new GoPro if you already have an existing digital camera. Fortunately for me I have a Canon which is decent quality but older and I wouldn't be heartbroken if it was broke or fell off my bike. I picked up one of these Arkon CMP27 motorcycle and handle bar mounts for my bike and I love the thing. Sure it's not GoPro but it does a pretty good job and cost me nothing but my existing digital camera and about $7.

Cheaper doesn't always mean better though. I have a few complaints and issues. Here they are...

On a moving bike, car, mountainbike, etc the camera does experience vibration and can cause it to pop or flop out of position. My fix to this was work with gravity, not against gravity. I mounted my camera hanging down under my handlebar instead of on top of my handle bar. This wasn't a perfect solution as I like the view from a higher height unobstructed. The other problem with my fix is  your video appears upside down. This is a pretty simple fix however. Just go to Windows Movie Maker. Click edit movie, then select the video effects menu, then just select rotate 180 degrees. Save t your computer and your finished you solved the upside down video problem and it took you all of about 10 seconds.

It really wouldn't be fair to compare this to a GoPro because I'm using a 10 years old digital camera which was more meant for still shots than moving video but for $7 this is a cheap alternative to a GoPro. If your just getting into riding and filming this may be a quick and cheap way to start out to decide if you really want to invest in a GoPro.
